Group Statement

This year’s annual exhibition by Kingston Gallery’s Associate Artists explores the theme “drawn together'' from different perspectives and media. As a collective of artists who have collaborated over the past year to produce this exhibit, Drawn Together is an apt metaphor for the current cultural moment. Artists responded with works that express emotions: meditations on human interaction and dialogue; what it means to be a part of, or excluded from, a community; and the genesis of support communities forming in times of illness or tragedy. Other interpretations reflect nature and the environment: how convergence in nature can offer both friction and possibility; or reveal ancient and intimate collaborations that create hopeful lessons of adaptations and change for humanity. The works on exhibit range from vivid and abstract to monochromatic and scientific. All artists set boundaries for themselves, ground rules for their creative process, or let the physicality of gesture determine the forms. In Drawn Together, we see all of these principles at play in the Main, Center, and Project Space Galleries. The result showcases works from Kingston’s nine Associate Members who spent the past year Drawn Together.

Drawn Together features the following artists: Madge Evers, Rene Galvan, Yildiz Grodowski, Jane Lincoln, Brian Littlefield, Diane Novetsky, Brett S. Poza, Rachel Thern, and Anne Sargent Walker. Full artist biographies and press images can be downloaded here. Highlights from the show for each artist are included below.

The mission of the Kingston Associate Members program is to expand the reach, representation, and opportunities of the gallery to more artists in Greater Boston. This annual exhibition is the culmination of a yearlong curatorial process organized by the Associate Members themselves. The breadth of the works includes painting, video art, and installation.
