Artist Statement
One's reality is molded by a myriad of objects and people, of images and emotions emerging and fading from consciousness. We recognize and fail to recognize, we remember and forget, and we erase the memories of our senses, whether voluntarily or otherwise. The sound of a young son's laughter when he opens his eyes in the morning. The anguish of a friend who has unexpectedly lost a loved one... My work depicts the process by which these moments, mundane and intense, each combine to form ever unfolding and evolving landscapes.
These landscapes are created through an organic process of layering, cutting, and reattaching materials and infusing drawings. Disparate elements merge and weave together through the passage of time. The result is an intricate collage-like fabric that lives and breathes. It captures and tells the story of the continuously unfolding scenery in our mind's eye. I draw landscapes in motion.
